County Team Championship
Congratulations to South Park Con. Club on reaching
the final at Reading Post Office Club, where they lost to the Oxford
team representatives 3 – 2. It was a wonderful performance against
quality opposition, star performance on the day was Jimmy Greenstead,
who remained unbeaten. Well done and bad luck to D.C. and his team. |

County Championships
Reading Post
Office Club Sept./Oct.
The
surrey men failed to get promotion to Div. One, losing 5 – 2 to
Northants ‘A’ in the last match, after a good start, beating Kent ‘B’ 6
– 1, Cambridgeshire 6- 1 and Northants ‘B’ 6 – 1
The Surrey Ladies ‘A’ & ‘B’ teams performed better a
week later. The ‘A’ team held their position in Div. One, having gained
promotion last year, needing to beat Kent 3 - 2 in the last series to
stay up, it was a pretty lack lustre performance though, with few
highlights. The ‘B’ team performed really well in Div. Two, finishing 2nd,
in only their 2nd year in playing in the Championships, Linda
Tidy won all her games and Bobbie Davis won her first county game. Well
done all. |

Interleague
Mixed
fortunes for our three teams representing Redhill in the Sussex
Interleague. The ‘A’ team losing 4 – 3 at home to Brighton, then winning
4 – 3 away at Horsham and Eastbourne. The ‘B’ team lost 4 – 3 away at
Billinghurst and then lost 6 – 1 at home to Tunbridge Wells (who are
surely in the wrong league). The ‘C’ team lost 6 – 1 away to Tunbridge
Wells and then won 5 – 2 at home to Worthing ‘C’ |

The Jersey Experience
The World Bar Billiards
Championships held at the De Normandie Hotel was won by Graham Le Monnier of
Jersey. Let’s forget about that (it’s nice to win, believe me), but Jersey is
all about friendship, players and supporters from rival teams on a Tuesday, get
together to represent the Redhill Mob in Jersey and do they enjoy themselves,
you bet! Good food and plenty of drink flows as people enquire how so-and-so got
on and there is always laughter in the hotel lounge, where Jason and Sheila get
to grips with the ‘smooching couch’ or Tommy from the Limes, celebrates with
another pint because he didn’t get the lowest score or you could listen to Dave
Constable successfully talking Dave Jones of Jersey out of a match. Believe it
or not, the billiards is taken seriously and some good performances were noted,
Geoff Jukes – last 16, Jason Wadsworth and Ken Wilkinson – last 32, also Gary
Powell – last 16 of the plate. Highlights were Geoff Jukes beating Trevor
Gallienne (Guernsey Champion) and Ken Wilkinson beating Mark Turner (Oxford and
England), but in the end, win or lose, good friends from the world of Bar
Billiards get together to enjoy themselves. Looking forward to next year
already!
